Michael has that kind of passion for a niche activity which makes us sigh with relief and feel "someone's taking care of this to make it easier for all of us." History is at once fascinating and important but let's face it, often also dreary and longwinded as we get bogged down by the sheer volume and detail of time. What Michael recognises is that we can all learn so much more about the past (and therefore better understand the present) by focussing in on the human detail embedded in history.
